Umpqua Lighthouse State Park to Harris Beach State Park (Brookings, OR)
After three days on the road we’re still in Oregon, albeit at the very bottom of the state.
There wasn’t even any fog this morning. Sunshine at 7 am. And warmish although I wasn’t quite ready to pull out my shorts. As we headed out this morning there was not a cloud in the sky and it seemed a shame to waste this sunny, warm March weather and dash down the coast. So we took our time, stopping to enjoy the views, take some photos and find coffee.
By the time we got to Bandon, Oregon, it was time for a stretch. I found a decent cup of coffee and a cranberry square and sat in the warm sunshine in front of the Bandon Coffee Café. The café has a sign inside that reads: “Unattended children will be taken to the cranberry bogs and put to work.”
Next door to the B.C.C. is an art piece that might frighten small children. It’s a gigantic fish named Harry.
Harry is made totally from plastic materials that have washed up and been collected from Oregon beaches. This is a close-up of part of Harry.
This was the view during lunch (hummus and pita bread).
Tonight we’re staying a Harris Beach State Park just outside of Brookings, Oregon. There was time for a walk on the beach and some photo taking before Eliot demanded his dinner. Tomorrow it looks as if we will cross the border into California.
